Avenged Sevenfold’s latest single, “Hail to the King,” has been doing its rounds on the radio of late. And I have to say, it’s pretty badass. I love this song. The band allows the guitar to stand on its own, gradually introduces the drums and slowly adds the vocals. A lot of musicians allow their songs to run wild – some overstay their welcome while others leave when you were just getting to know them. Hail to the King doesn’t make that mistake however, as the band allows the song to play itself out. The whole thing feels organic and natural. It’s a perfect sampling of metal to cleanse the palate of the incessant detritus one finds on the radio.
With great vocals, solid riffs, and a unified sound that allows the various elements to play off their strengths yet simultaneously stand on their own, this is what I expect from Avenged Sevenfold. Citing Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin as inspirations for this album, I’m certainly interested to hear more. Until then, throw those hands high and rock the fuck out!
